1. Proof of Right to Work in the UK
Requirement:
Employers must verify and document an employee’s legal right to work before employment begins.
Acceptable Documents May Include:
British or Irish passport
Share code for online right-to-work check
Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
Visa with work authorization
Purpose:
Confirms legal eligibility to work
Protects Globalli from civil penalties (up to £20,000 per illegal worker)
Establishes a statutory excuse against liability
Right-to-work checks must be properly recorded and retained.
2. National Insurance (NI) Number
Requirement:
Employees should provide their National Insurance number.
Purpose:
Required for tax and National Insurance contributions
Links earnings to the employee’s social security record
Ensures correct reporting to HMRC
If the employee does not yet have an NI number, payroll can still be processed while they apply for one.
3. P45 or Starter Checklist
Requirement:
New employees must provide:
A P45 (from previous employer), or
Complete a Starter Checklist if no P45 is available
Authority:
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
Purpose:
Determines the correct tax code
Ensures accurate PAYE tax deductions
Prevents over- or under-payment of tax

4. Bank Account Details
Requirement:
Employees must provide bank account details for salary payments.
Purpose:
Enables electronic salary payments (BACS/Faster Payments)
Ensures payroll transparency and audit compliance
Required for proper accounting records
Cash payments are uncommon and discouraged for compliance reasons.
5. Signed Employment Contract (Written Statement of Particulars)
Requirement:
Employees must receive a written statement of employment particulars on or before their first day of work.
Must Include:
Job title and duties
Salary and payment frequency
Working hours
Holiday entitlement
Notice periods
Place of work
Purpose:
Establishes employment terms
Ensures compliance with the Employment Rights Act 1996
Provides clarity and legal protection for both parties
